Why Just Do It is More Than a Slogan: Resisting Hesitation

Original Post Date: November 1, 2023

Adopting this mindset requires that you accept failure. Failure has a bad reputation. We can’t seem to understand that it’s not entirely bad. It’s frustrating for sure but it’s our greatest instrument in learning. With trying, failing must come.

When Nike revealed their infamous slogan, I wonder if they knew people would bring it into their everyday life.

Hesitation is hard to avoid. Our biological safeguards would applaud us for stepping back to consider the risk of our actions. As humans, we are supposed to be cautious in the name of survival. On the other hand, hesitation can hold us back from experiencing and learning more. Hesitation could save you but it could be the barrier to leading the life you imagine. When we find fear in future endeavors we let it consume us. Instead of saying Just do it, we say better not. Why is that?

Some may call it impulsive to try it all, but wasting time isn't the best option either. Now by no means am I saying pursue every idea that enters your mind. The goal is to invest in the plans that can open doors, even if they have setbacks in the process. The longer we wait to start something new, the longer we have to create potential problems.

I’ve moved with a Just Do It mindset for a while now. Anxiety runs through me and I have my doubts, but I’m thankful for this outlook. I wouldn’t be where I am now without it. I wouldn’t have taken risks(at least professionally, I’m still working on applying it through and through).

I’m making this sound much easier than it is, but after you release the barriers you’ll be on your way.

A just-do-it mentality doesn’t have much room for embarrassment. You have to be willing to say fuck them people and their opinion. Everyone is trying to navigate their development and they aren’t the author of your journey.

You can’t just do it without passion. To be able to go after your dreams you have to have the deep connection to fuel it. If there’s no investment behind your plans, it’ll be difficult to find courage during obstacles.

Lastly, Adopting this mindset requires that you accept failure. Failure has a bad reputation. We can’t seem to understand that it’s not entirely bad. It’s frustrating for sure but it’s our greatest instrument in learning. With trying, failing must come.

When failure is at the front of our mind we’re blinded by all that can go wrong. Committing to a Just- Do-It attitude opens the doors to beautiful experiences. Experiences that will lead you to your purpose. Next time you build up a likeness for something new don’t hesitate. Explore it and consider its potential. Don’t convince yourself it won’t work. Say, I’m just gonna do it and see what unfolds. Sure it may fail but it might just take off.

With Love,

Allie
